What Is the Throttle Valve for Hydraulic System?

Basic information of throttle valve

According to the different modes of operation, the throttle valve can be divided into manual adjustment type of ordinary throttle valve, travel block or CAM and other mechanical moving parts of the control type travel throttle valve. Throttle valve and one-way valve can also be composed of one-way throttle, one-way travel throttle valve and some other stainless steel ball valves.

The operating principle of the throttle valve of the hydraulic mechanical transmission is that the hydraulic oil flow in from the inlet P1 and flow out through hole A, axial triangle groove at the left end of spool 1, hole B and outlet P2. By adjusting the handwheel, the push rod can move along the axial direction, so as to change the flow area between the inlet and outlet of the oil, the purpose of regulating the flow can be achieved.

The characteristics of throttle valve

Throttle valve has the advantages of simple structure, small size, easy to use and low cost. The adjustment range of the mouth of hydraulic ball valve is large, so there is a small stable flow. However, its flow passage has a certain length, and the flow is susceptible to temperature and load, so we recommend that this throttle valve is only suitable for the temperature and load change little or speed stability requirements of the hydraulic power transmission system.

Experimental results show that when the throttle valve in a small open area under work, although the pressure difference before and after the valve and oil viscosity are unchanged, but through the valve, flow will appear periodic pulsation phenomenon: along with the opening gradually decreases, the flow pulsation changes, even there is an intermittent flow, which makes the throttle valve completely lose the ability to work. This phenomenon is known as throttle blockage in hydrostatic drive transmission. The main reasons for the blockage are as follows: (1) the dirt in the oil blocked the flow, thus causing the flow pulsation change; (2) the adsorption of polarized molecules and metal surfaces in the oil leads to the formation of an adsorption layer on the surface of the throttling gap, which changes the size and shape of the joint orifice of hydraulic actuated ball valve.

The blockage of throttle valve makes the throttle valve is not stable under a small flow, leading to creep phenomenon of the actuator. In order to solve this deficiency, we set a minimum flow limit for the throttle valve to function normally. This limit is known as the minimum steady flow of the throttle valve, and it also limits the minimum steady speed of the actuator.
