In the hydraulic field, it is imperative to understand the various types of cartridge valve passes, helping us to choose the appropriate type according to the actual needs.
Insert-type valve is completely inside the valve block, using its own screw thread or other components to realize positioning function. At present, this kind of design, applied not widely, can only be employed in check valve and two-way flow-regulator valve. Slip-in valve, known as sub-plate valve, has no mounting thread itself. It needs to use the valve element together with the cover plate cooperatively. Integrated into valve block, the valve element mainly plays a switching role between manifold connection and disconnection by comparing pressure with spring force. The valve can be made from NG16 to NG160, with a maximum flow of 2,000L/min.
In addition, there is another slip-in cartridge valve. The valve body (valve element) is integrated into valve block mounting and is connected to the block by screw-fastening the cover plate. The installation and the pass-type design of valve block are both very simple, and the space occupation is small. So the design is usually applied to proportional cartridge valve and the occasions that have strict space requirements.
Screw-in valve is also named as threaded cartridge valve. Limited to the thread strength and the tightening torque, the diameter of threaded cartridge valve is usually at 48-mm and the flow rate is less than 500-L/min.
The popular threaded cartridge valve with different brands and different pass types usually cannot be exchanged in installation. And now there are three commonly used pass types: ISO7789, SAE and SUN.
ISO 7789 was developed by International Organization for Standardization. There are not many matching producers, among which Wandfluh from Switzerland adopts this standard.
In 2000, many producers of threaded valve proposed to use SAE standard, the pass standard of British UN and UNF thread.
