Over the past few years, Airbus has played an active role in promoting the development of hydraulic components for 3D-printed aircraft spoilers; Italian racing car manufacturers used additive manufacturing hydraulic system in racing cars; Moog, a famous advanced hydraulic parts manufacturer, has made a comprehensive exploration in the design, innovation and additive manufacturing of complex parts in hydraulic power transmission system. Parker Hannifin, another well-known hydrostatic drive transmission and control system maker, has opened an "Advanced Manufacturing Learning and Development Center" near its headquarters that explores additive manufacturing technology.
We can say that the development of metal 3D printing technology in the field of hydraulic hoses and fittings manufacturing, on the one hand, is driven by the requirements of hydraulic parts application enterprises in terms of lightweight and performance improvement. On the other hand, it also benefits from the hydraulic system manufacturing enterprises in product innovation attempts and efforts. Recently, we can see the emergence of 3D printing hydraulic parts manufacturing technology into the agricultural machinery industry under the push of Italian hydraulic manufacturer called Aidro Hydraulics.
According to our market research, additive manufacturing technology is not new to some agricultural machinery manufacturers in the world. For example, Amazone, which is a German agricultural machinery manufacturer, has used topological optimization technology and voxeljet's 3DP 3D printing technology to manufacture sand mold and sand core, so as to produce large lightweight frame castings of certain agricultural machinery. John Deere, an American manufacturer of farm machinery, uses 3D printing to make prototypes, fixtures and spare parts.
High pressure hydraulic ball valves manufactured by Aidro have been applied to industrial fields such as agricultural machinery, aerospace, oil drilling and automobile manufacturing. Shares of metal 3D printing hydraulic valve body was formally launched by Aidro in 2017, and agricultural machinery industry is the key application direction of its 3D printing hydraulic products.
When metal 3D printing technology is applied to carry out hydraulic product innovation, the additive manufacturing team of Aidro made new thoughts on how to make full use of powder bed selective laser metal 3D printing technology to optimize hydraulic manifolds and hydraulic pipe fittings used in agricultural machinery. In the end, they came up with a product that did exactly the same thing as the hydraulic manifolds of the previous generation of traditional farm machinery. The product controls a double acting cylinder with two hydraulic ball valves and two pilot type check valves.
According to Aidro, 3D printed hydraulic manifolds are 75% lighter and 50% smaller than traditional hydraulic manifolds in hydraulic mechanical transmission. These 3d-printed hydraulic manifolds are made of cast aluminum alloy AlSi10Mg, which has excellent strength and thermal properties and is light in weight. Such alloys are commonly used in the manufacture of complex geometric parts.
