Do You Know How to Check Hydraulic Failure?

Hydraulic failure will bring huge trouble to our hydraulic system, so we will share the hydraulic failure inspection methods summarized by years of hydraulic maintenance experience.

Visual Inspection

For some simple faults, we can check the parts employing sight, hand model, ear hearing, and smell, for example. Through visual inspection, we can find faults such as cracks, oil leakage, loosening, and deformation, so that we can repair or replace parts in time. Another way, we can hold the rubber hydraulic hose or hydraulic rubber hose with our hands, there will be vibration when the pressure oil flows through. On the contrary, there is no such phenomenon when there is no oil flow or the pressure is too low. Also, hand touch can be used to judge whether the lubrication of hydraulic components with mechanical transmission parts is good. We can also feel the temperature change of the component shell by hand. If the component shell is overheated, it means that the lubrication is poor.

We can judge the point of failure and the degree of damage caused by the damage of mechanical parts by sounds, such as hydraulic pump emptying, overflow valve opening, component issuing, and other failures that will make abnormal sounds such as water impact. Some components will emit a peculiar smell due to overheating, poor lubrication, and cavitation, such as cloth surface rubber hydraulic hoses and rubber hose clamps, so we can determine the point of failure by sniffing.

Swap Diagnosis

At the maintenance site, if we encounter a situation where there is a lack of diagnostic equipment or the components under investigation are not suitable to be disassembled, we should use this method to first remove the suspected faulty components and replace them with new ones. Or test the components of the same model that work normally on other machines, and then diagnose if the fault can be eliminated. Before disassembly, we need to use hydraulic hose clamps or orbit hose clamps to shut down the running system.

Due to the limitations of structure, on-site component storage, or inconvenient disassembly, it may be troublesome to operate. However, for small, easy-to-disassemble components such as balance valves, overflow valves, and check valves, this method is still convenient. The replacement diagnosis method can avoid the performance degradation of hydraulic components due to blind disassembly. For the above failures, if you do not need to change the method and directly remove the suspicious main safety valve and disassemble it if there is no problem with the component, its performance may be affected after installation.

Instrument Measurement Inspection Method

By measuring the pressure, flow, and oil temperature of the hydraulic oil of each part of the hydraulic system, the fault point of the system is judged in the general field inspection. Since the failure of the hydraulic system is often manifested as insufficient pressure, it is easy to detect. The detection of flow is more difficult. The magnitude of the flow can only be roughly judged by the speed of the actuator movement. Therefore, in-field inspection, we use differential pressure gauges or pressure gauges with snubber to detect system pressure more frequently.

In the event of failure, the common problem is the loss of hydraulic pressure. If it is found to be a hydraulic cylinder problem, it can be further processed. Under normal circumstances, the leakage of hydraulic cylinders is divided into internal leakage and external leakage. As long as we observe, we can determine the cause of external leakage. It is more difficult to determine the cause of the internal leakage of the hydraulic cylinder because we cannot directly observe the internal leakage.

In normal use, we should also pay attention to frequently check the threads, bolts, and other connecting parts. Once found loose, we need to tighten it immediately. Because these places are loose, it will also cause oil leakage in the hydraulic cylinder, which is well understood for those engaged in construction machinery. Choose our crimp hydraulic hose fittings and hydraulic crimp fittings, which brings a better fitting experience.
