Why Hydraulic Hoses Fail in Working?

The hydraulic hose fitting assembly is assembled from a wire wound stainless steel hydraulic hose, a crimping core, a crimping jacket and a nut.  The hydraulic hose must have two basic requirements, including firm connection and reliable sealing.  The connection effect and sealing performance of hydraulic hoses and fittings depend on rubber friction and shape friction.  Among them, the rubber friction depends on the buckle force, and the shape friction depends on the shape of the buckle.  The failure modes of hydraulic hoses and their failure reasons are as follows.

26-hydraulic hoses and fittings

1) Oil Leakage at the Buckle Part

The main cause of oil leakage at the hydraulic hose crimp fitting is poor sealing at the crimping part. There are two reasons that affect the sealing quality of the crimping part. One is the uneven size of the inner hole of the hose, resulting in uneven compression force during crimping, which leads to oil leakage in the part with a small crimping force. The other is that, due to the different hardness of the core and the jacket, the deformation and shrinkage of the hose after the crimping are different.  If the crimping jacket has a high hardness, the steel wire reinforcement layer may be broken, resulting in uneven compression force. If the crimping jacket has a low hardness, the internal stress of the plastic deformation after crimping will be small and the compression force will be insufficient. It is the same with the influence of hardness of crimping core.

2) Tube Burst

The tube burst can be divided into two types according to the burst position.  One is that the position of the crack is at both ends of the hose and within 25mm from the crimping jacket.  The reason for this kind of burst is that the hose is not standardized in manufacture or assembly, such as the hose being stretched and twisted during assembly, or the hose bending radius is smaller than the minimum allowable bending radius.  The other is that the position of the crack is 25mm away from the crimping jacket.  The cause of this type of burst is basically the hydrostatic drive systems pressure is too high or the pipe body is worn.

3) Oil Leakage from Pipe Body Sand Hole

The oil leakage of the tube body is generally manifested as the oil leakage or linear injection after the rubber hydraulic hose is bubbled.  Most of the oil leakage from the pipe body is caused by the quality problems of the hose, such as the rubber in the pipe body contains impurities, the pipe body is partially damaged, and the pipe body has defects during demolding.

4) Oil Leakage at the Joint Connection

The oil leakage at the joint connection is mainly due to the mismatch of the dimensional accuracy of the hydraulic adapter and the transition joint connected to other parts, or the mismatch between the hydraulic hose adapter and the transition joint.

5) Cracked Outer Rubber Layer

Due to exposure to the sun and rain, the outer rubber layer of the hydraulic rubber hose of the construction machinery constructed outdoors is constantly aging and deteriorating.  As long as the hose is slightly bent during use, tiny cracks will occur, and the outer rubber layer of the hose will crack over time.

The above are the common causes of failure of hydraulic hoses. Part of the reason is due to the manufacturing problems of hydraulic hoses.
